Nekrolog Oscar Staveland

Oscar Staveland of Fall Creek, died Feb. 10 of age-related causes. He was 80. Staveland was born Feb. 28, 1923, in Bremnes, Norway, to Ole and Laura Ash Staveland. He attended schools in the Smith River area near Reedsport. He lived in Arcata and Colton, Calif., before returning to Oregon and settling in this area in 1991. He served in the Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II, was wounded in action and received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He owned his own logging company and trucks and drove log and construction trucks as well as working as a logger. He was a member of the U.S. Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed his job and fixing cars. Survivors include a son, Stephen "Oscar" of Juneau, Alaska; a daughter, Vickie Lofy of Fall Creek; a brother, George of Veneta; a sister, Edna Folkerts of Vancouver, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Burial Gates Cemetery in Crow. Poole-Larsen Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
